Reality TV star and beauty influencer, Natasha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has sparked debate on social media after claiming Nigerians exhibit forms of discrimination that could rival racism.
Her Tuesday remarks came in reaction to the online backlash against Tunde Onakoya, whose recent post drew mixed reactions on X.
“When I see Nigerians talk about racism, I just laugh. Because we’re some of the most discriminatory and segregating people to ever exist.
“I’ve experienced racism, yes, but if you see what Nigerians do to fellow Nigerians every day on this app is worse. And to be honest, if we were in their position, we would probably do worse,” Tacha wrote.
The controversy followed a video posted by Onakoya around April 19–20,
2026, showing him playing chess in a traditional agbada at the open plaza outside the Louvre Museum.
He captioned it as a milestone moment, describing himself as the “first Nigerian to play chess at the Louvre” and framing it as a cultural achievement.
While many Nigerians praised the symbolism of showcasing culture on a global stage, critics questioned the claim, they pointed the location is a public space outside the museum, accessible to anyone, no official records exist to verify such a “first”, and the act appeared informal rather than a structured or historic event
Weighing in, Tacha praised Onakoya’s response to the criticism, noting that he had previously faced intense online attacks.
“To be honest, I love the way Tunde has handled this whole situation because clearly this is not the first time they are coming at him.
“They came at this guy to the point where he had to leave this app, but not anymore. And it is good that he is standing for himself,” she said.
She went further to criticise social media users she described as habitual trolls.
According to her, such individuals often react negatively when confronted with visible success.
“So when they see people succeeding and impacting the real world positively, they hate and get bitter,” she added.
