Tokyo 2020 Olympics finalist, Enoch Adegoke, says he is delighted to be rediscovering his form after lowering his season’s best at the grand finale of the MTN CHAMPS Season 4 in Ibadan, where he won the men’s 100m title in 10.15s, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
He edged reigning National Sports Festival champion Chidera Ezeakor in a dramatic final, with both athletes crossing the line almost simultaneously.
Beyond securing the title, the performance marked one of Adegoke’s fastest time in about five years, since clocking 9.98s in the Olympic semi-finals in 2021.
The 26-year-old had struggled to regain top form after sustaining an injury in the Olympic final, but his run in Ibadan signals a strong return.
“Very special. I have been looking for a faster time than 10.30s. After I got injured in 2021, one of my most consistent times every season has been 10.30s. So, I really wanted to be consistently around 10.00s to 10.10s so I can get back to my best,” Adegoke said.
“In the heats, I ran 10.30s and in the semi-finals 10.34s, and I knew I was executing well. My coach always says if you’re doing the right things, the time you’re looking for will come.
“Then in the final, I knew it was not going to be a regular race and Chidera really pushed me, so it’s very special to me.”
Adegoke is a former world U-20 champion, two-time national champion, and multiple gold medallist at the National Sports Festival.
